Extraordinary Perspectives at Florida House on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., Sept. 29.

Student artists from Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and Florida Scholars Academy (FSA) had their work displayed at the Florida House on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as part of a special exhibition presented Sept. 29 through Oct. 4.

The exhibition, "Florida Students. Extraordinary Perspectives," featured 20 pieces selected from 74 works displayed during the FLVS Foundation's Artful Expressions: A Universe of Possibilities showcase. The collection included photography, digital art, paintings, and mixed-media works created by students from across Florida.

"Having our students' artwork displayed in Washington, D.C., was an incredible achievement," said Michael Pociask, superintendent of Florida Scholars Academy. "Opportunities like this recognize students' hard work and highlight what can be accomplished when they are encouraged to pursue their talents. Being recognized on a national stage helps students see the value of their efforts and the opportunities that can follow when they are committed to achieving their goals."

An opening reception Sept. 29 welcomed congressional staff members, federal agency representatives, Florida House board members, and families of featured student artists.

"Seeing our students' artwork displayed at Florida House was a powerful reminder of the talent, creativity, and unique perspectives young people across Florida bring to the world," said Michael Miller, FLVS Foundation board member. "This exhibit gave students the opportunity to share their voices beyond their classrooms and communities, engaging audiences in the nation's capital through their work."
