Florida Scholars Academy Graduate Turns Perseverance Into Workforce Success

After overcoming challenges and earning his high school diploma through Florida Scholars Academy (FSA), Kahliayah Robinson is building a successful career as an asset protection investigator with Walmart.

FSA, operated by Florida Virtual School (FLVS), provides educational services to youth in Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) residential programs across 38 residential facilities statewide.

Robinson recently shared his story with FSA and FLVS educators, administrators, and support staff, reflecting on the challenges he overcame and the determination that helped him achieve his goals.

"Being recognized for my perseverance was truly an honor," Robinson said. "It was a meaningful experience to share my story and reflect on the challenges I have overcome and the successes I have achieved."

Robinson thanked the educators and leaders who supported him throughout his academic journey, including Lynn Zenone, Cindy Hutchinson, Abude Koushakjy, and FLVS Chief Academic Officer Robin Winder. 

Now employed full-time, Robinson said his experiences reinforced the importance of resilience and showed how persistence can create opportunities that once seemed out of reach. He hopes his story encourages current students to remain focused on their goals despite the obstacles they may face.

Launched in 2024, as the state’s first unified school district for youth in Florida’s DJJ residential facilities, FSA served 3,058 students during the 2025-26 school year. A total of 442 students graduated, with 202 earning a standard high school diploma and 240 earning a high school equivalency diploma (GED).

"Kahliayah's journey demonstrates the life-changing impact education can have on a student's future. His determination to earn a diploma and build a successful career reflects exactly what Florida Scholars Academy strives to help students achieve: the confidence, skills, and opportunities to succeed beyond graduation," said Michael Pociask, superintendent of Florida Scholars Academy.

"I look forward to continuing my academic and professional journey while helping others realize what is possible through dedication and persistence," Robinson said.
